STYLE GURU BIO: Soni Solano

Hey fashion lovers (cue Kristen Bell voice)!

My name is Soni and this is my first semester as a Style Guru. I’m super stoked to be a part of the Guru Gang!

I owe my obsession with clothes and style to three things: Gossip Girl, Mayra, the most fashionable person in my family, and my home, NYC. I believe that I was ten when Gossip Girl first aired, and that’s when my life changed forever. Blair and Serena became my fashion icons and every week I looked forward to seeing exactly what they would be wearing. Now at age 22, I find myself style hunting, playing dress up, and dressing up all the time. From my days of wearing oversized T-shirts and boys basketball shorts, I never saw this coming.

My personal style falls somewhere between glam and rock. I live for ’90s-inspired looks and skate/street wear looks too. For me, clothes are more than just pieces of fabric that you throw on yourself every morning. Putting together a good outfit brings me confidence and keeps me staying creative at all times. My favorite stores to shop at are Urban Outfitters, Topshop, Free People, Zara, and Vans.

For this particular outfit, I went with a fedora , a crop top paired along with black high waisted jeans for a proportioned look, and black over-the-knee boots. ( As genetics weren’t on my side, but at least I can always buy my desired height.)  If I wasn’t wearing enough black before, I decided to go with a black faux suede choker with gold detailing at the bottom for a finishing touch.

Style aside, I’m a sophomore majoring in fashion business management at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC. When I’m not in class or at work, you can usually catch me somewhere in Manhattan shopping, eating at aesthetically pleasing restaurants that I “found” somewhere from Instagram,  gallery hopping, and learning how to master the art of a perfectly smokey eye via some beauty vloggers YouTube channel.

I can’t wait to see what this semester with CollegeFashionista will bring! I’m so very excited to find out.
