STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Fall Layering

October 24th, 2016 at 2:00am

Every year as summer transitions to fall, during a brief few-week period the weather seems to cool down just enough that we aren’t so reluctant to let go of our flip flops and tank tops. Blacksburg seems to be in the middle of this wonderful transition right now and it feels like Fashionistas everywhere are rejoicing as they pull out their favorite lightweight jackets and booties. I will hold onto my riding boots until they’re pried away again from my cold hands from subordinate weather.

This look is both cute and weather-appropriate with the simple addition of a classic jacket and tights. What was once a summer outfit—a tank top with overalls—eases into a fall-ready look. Tans may fade and leaves may fall but you don’t have to put away your summer favorites from your closet just yet. This Fashionista tied her whole look together with a pair of tights and classic combat boots. If your weather permits, you can even show off bare legs during this perfect time of year.

A good denim jacket is a must-have for fall layering. This jacket matches with everything and can dress down any look. The classic denim is used in almost every Halloween-themed 90s movie out there, the ones we all fondly binge-watch on ABC Family (excuse me, Freeform) every October. This Fashionista looks like she just walked out of one of these not-so-scary flicks and straight onto the streets of Blacksburg.

Halloween is personally my favorite time of year and this outfit acts as the perfect how-to look to achieve an effortless spirit without any over-exaggeration. If you want to rock the Halloween-energy without going all out with a costume during the day on October 31st, opt for some subdued oranges and grungy black overalls to pull in an edgy-girl vibe. Still looking for a last-minute costume? If you’re really feeling daring—try on a big red clown nose and wig for an easy costume.

Actually no, please don’t do that. Happy Halloween!
