Check Out Why Your Fall Fashion Inspiration Should Be Legendary

October 24th, 2016 at 2:00am

Francoise Hardy is a French singer and actress, most popularly known during the 1970s. Not only is she known for her works in French pop, but she has been mentioned as inspiration by some of our favorite fashion names today such as Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga, David Bowie, Vogue and Alexa Chung.

When I’m looking for outfit inspiration, I draw ideas from classic and vintage looks. Francoise Hardy’s French “it” girl style has remained a template for a simple fall look book.

From simple pieces like turtlenecks, to retro fads like bell-botton jeans, Francoise’s looks will always resonate with me.

Her style is so easy to replicate, and I’m not afraid to splurge on classic pieces that will stay in fashion forever. Here are a few of my favorite glimpses of Francoise’s amazing style with tips and links to dress like her this season.

Layer with a classic black turtleneck. Francoise wears a basic turtleneck with a white trench and simple jeans for an everyday unifrom. To channel Francoise in this look, I’d pay attention to the minor details such as a necklace, belt and a simple bracelet.

Rock the stripes this fall. When it comes to stripes, there are so many options! Try a striped oxford, striped dress or cropped sweater. It all depends on your mood that day.

Bell bottom jeans. Even though Hardy was a fashion inspiration during the 70s, her looks stay relevant throughout the decades and to this day because of the way she wears each piece. She creates her effortless looks by wearing trendy pieces and pairing them with classics. This fall, combine a pair of black ankle boots with some thrifted bell-bottom jeans to channel this outfit.

Change up the layers! I love how Francoise put a bell-sleeved top with a short-sleeved cardigan together. The contrast of the sleeves make this piece really stand out. I also loved the tall boots paired with the cropped high-waisted jeans.

Layer a black leather jacket over an all-white ensemble. Yes, you can wear white after labor day. Get this look with flared high-waisted white jeans, a leather jacket and a vintage band T-shirt.

Francoise always paid attention to details. Check out the ruffle collar and sleeves on her top in contrast with the patterned leggings. Translate this look into a business-casual look with a ruffle collar and frilled-hem trousers.

Roll the neck of your turtleneck this fall to stand out a little from the regular folded over turtleneck collar. Throw over a peacoat and black corduroys for this French-girl look.
