ALL IN THE DETAILS: Throw-On-And-Go

Believe me, overalls were the last trend I expected to make it big this spring; they even placed below bucket hats on my list of spring trends. Nevertheless, here they are and selling like hot cakes. I can practically hear retailers yelling, “Step right up! Come and get your overalls here!” I am always weary of investing in trendy clothing because of their short life cycles, but something feels different about the return of this ‘90s fad.

With a heat wave currently blowing through L.A., simple and easy quickly became the motto for Fashionistas far and wide. Being able to throw on a dress, or a pair of overalls in this case, becomes quite the blessing when rushing out the door for class. Looking ever so casual and cool, this Fashionista had the right idea when it pushed 90 degrees this week. Her tomboy look was perfectly executed with her basic layering tank and minimal accessorizing. Although, those leopard slip-on sandals tell a whole other story. Her pair of overalls were a great fit for her frame and cuffing the bottoms was the right finish to the outfit. To keep her look relaxed and easy, she left her hair and makeup natural.

In the ‘90s, overalls were the easy and adorable way to dress an infant or toddler (insert an image of me and my sisters matching for a family photo). They quickly fell into fad phase and were not seen or heard of until a few years ago. But, as Mr. Timberlake would put it, “What goes around, (goes around, goes around) comes all the way back around.” Nearly every retailer and style icon—hello, Alexa Chung for AG!—is jumping on board for overalls, or dungarees for all you fancy folk.  Now, they even come in a short or skirt option. For those sentimental Fashionista’s out there, scoop up a pair before they’re gone again.

How To:  Willing to give overalls a shot? Opt for a simple, fitted pair much like this Fashionista (especially for you shorter and smaller girls). Then, layer with any top your heart desires; tank tops, crop tops and bralettes transition a pair into hot, summer weather.
