STYLE GURU STYLE: Internet Winter-Nets

December 9th, 2016 at 2:00am

Welcome to the age of the Internet, where anything and everything is only a click away. Although there are many perks that come alongside having constant access to cyberspace, one of the best features—in my opinion—is the ability to gain style inspiration by connecting with others through social media. Thanks to well known social networking platforms such as YouTube and Instagram, Fashionistas worldwide have the ability to see and introduce fashion-forward styles before they are adapted by the consumer market. Last winter, I noticed an up-and-coming content creator that I follow layering her thrifted jeans with fishnet stockings on Instagram. On their own, these tights are perfect for autumn, however, when layered beneath denim, fishnets become the ultimate winter accessory. Almost one year later and this “winter-net” look has begun sprouting up on Fashionistas across the Internet.

Inspired by the personal style of others online, I have incorporated new trends into my daily wardrobe! This look blends statement pieces, such as a fluffy coat and a pair of fishnet tights, with the current trends of distressed denim and satin textures. Starting on top, I have on a black, cropped satin camisole paired with an ivory, fluffy coat from Mended Threads East. Although the fit of this shirt is cropped, it is lightweight and looks adorable layered over any type of T-shirt. By adding this fluffy coat, the look instantly becomes warmer and winter-ready. Layered over the black fishnet tights, I have on a pair of distressed, loose-fitting boyfriend jeans from Forever 21. The medium blue wash of this pair of tastefully distressed jeans is transitional regardless of the season and a wardrobe necessity. To finish off the look, I added a messy, micro-cuff to the hem and my go-to black combat boots from Steve Madden. Because I had incorporated a few statement pieces, I decided to keep my jewelry simple by wearing a delicate, gold necklace.
