STYLE GURU STYLE: Denim Jackets and Balenciaga

Recently, I have been into finding staple pieces that can be worn for walking around campus, but also adjustable for a day at work. During Spring Break, I had the opportunity to hang out with my wonderful mother and have a girl’s day of shopping. Our first stop, Marshalls, was filled with essential items for outfit inspirations I had seen on the runway. This is where I found both my denim jacket and my button-down similar to an outfit that appeared in one of my favorite fall 2016 ready-to-wear shows, Balenciaga. Their cool, fresh style is what makes them a perfect inspiration for college students who are on a budget.

What I thought was unique about this show is that the designer appeared to be literally creating the idea of “business casual” into one whole outfit. In this fall collection, Balenciaga incorporates a casual denim jacket over top of a button-down shirt typically used for the work environment. This outfit is perfect for me when I’m running around for class and don’t have time to stop at my apartment before my internship.

A corduroy skirt was something that I have been looking for at many stores, and I was so excited when I saw it make an appearance in the show. I couldn’t find one with a good fit until I went to Goodwill. A lot of these pieces were big a while ago, so it’s not too hard to find some at a thrift store or even tucked away in your mom’s closet. Since it is still a little chilly out in Pittsburgh, I like to wear boots with my dresses or skirts during springtime.

My over-the-knee boots from Target are an essential in anything I wear, because they are so easy to slip on when I’m late for class or heading out in the rain. As always, my outfit is paired with a big tote to keep all of my things in an organized mess.

Get My Look: 1. A comfy denim jacket. 2. Any button-down shirt. 3. A cute corduroy skirt.
