STYLE GURU STYLE: Can’t Get Enough of the ’70s

If you were to ask me what my favorite decade of fashion is, I would immediately answer the ’70s. From the flared denim to the bohemian vibes and everything in between, it is undeniable that the decade of eccentric culture has made a come-back in today’s society. I love how effortless the look of the ’70s is and how each item of clothing complements the figure. In recent fall runway shows, the ’70s style has made itself quite evident in subtle ways. Take Jill Stuart for example: the A-line cut and suede motifs can be seen on almost every model strutting down the catwalk.

I used inspiration from the Jill Stuart collection to gather up the most applicable pieces from my wardrobe. Since I am studying abroad in Italy there weren’t many options; however, I pulled together just enough to make this look a modern version of my favorite decade. The fall ready-to-wear show included high-waisted skirts that went along with more structured outerwear. My denim skirt fit perfectly for the trend and I paired this with a simple white T-shirt. Green not only complements the changing leaves of the season, but it also pulls the outfit together with its subtlety. Since it was a bit chilly on this side of the world, I wore a gray cardigan underneath my coat and topped it all off with a black hat I recently purchased at Primark (a European brand that I have absolutely fallen in love with). I wore a pair of black leggings to keep my body warm and decided to throw on a comfy pair of brown boots.

This look definitely alludes to the ’70s but it still has my personal preferences tied in. For example, the choker and hat may not have been worn in that decade, but it adds a unique flair to the overall look and such accessories can always be replaced with other ones. Take inspiration from whatever decade you love and add your own personal touch—just remember to have fun!
