STYLE GURU BIO: Ybik Gaviria

Hi, everyone! My name is Ybik Gaviria, and I am very excited to begin my first semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista. I am a junior studying journalism at the University of Florida. Even though I love being surround by the beauty of green trees and beautifully brick structured buildings, I am a city girl from head-to-toe and can’t see myself anywhere else that isn’t New York after college.

I love everything that has to do with fashion on all sides of the spectrum from reading and writing to styling. You will always find me glued to the computer during London, Milan, Paris and New York Fashion Week for womenswear and menswear, because to me, there is no better inspiration. Aside from the copious amount of street style inspiration I get from fashion week, I love the overwhelming feeling of watching the patterns in trends and color schemes differ but still be the same from show to show.

I don’t have an exact style because my closet constantly changes, just like the seasons do. I like taking risks with my outfits and not limiting myself to certain styles that other people might not think to wear because I like setting trends more than I do following, and that’s the way to do it.

I chose to wear something that really represented me and that is denim on denim. I have always had a slight obsession with wearing denim over denim because it is a look that always makes a comeback and it can be styled however you’d like.

For this look, I paired reworked high-waisted denim shorts with a white, long-sleeved ruffled blouse and a fringe denim jacket. (I added the fringe onto the denim jacket myself.) The final touch for this outfit were the studded clogs. The blouse is currently my favorite article of clothing because these sleeves and ruffles are making such a comeback! The shorts I got from a thrift store and reworked myself, and when I don’t have time to thrift I get my distressed shorts from Nasty Gal. My blouse is from H&M, but this Topshop blouse is very similar.

I am very excited to share all my looks with all of you this semester, and hopefully, my looks give some inspiration to yours!
