STYLE GURU BIO: Shannon Carlough

Hello to you and your rad self! My name is Shannon Carlough and I am so incredibly excited to be working with College Fashionista this year! I am a junior Fashion Merchandising major and Fashion Media minor at Kent State University and have been extremely involved with Kent’s fashion student organizations including our school fashion magazine A Magazine. My ultimate dream is to become the next Miranda Priestly and to own my own company designing shoes and handbags!

My interest in fashion started at a young age when I my mother gave me my great-grandmother’s vintage clothing pieces and accessories from the 1930s, ’40s and ’50s. I was intrigued by the quality of the fabric, and the iconic trends that were coming back in style. Classic Hollywood movies also resulted in my love for fashion. Actresses including Grace Kelly, Katherine Hepburn and Liz Taylor inspired my style henceforth.

Although I have a passion for classic Hollywood styles, I would say my style is eclectic because each day I have different choices of who I want to dress up as whether that is ’60s mod or ’90s grunge. My favorite thing that fashion has to offer is the chance to rework pieces such as taking a scarf and turning it into a shirt, wearing a cotton button up shirt backwards, or adding pins/broaches to a handbag. Life is short, so why wear boring clothes?

I can’t wait to start writing this semester for CollegeFashionista and for all of you fashionistas/fashionistos to read my upcoming articles!
