STYLE GURU BIO: Megan Murphy

I’m Megan and here is a little about me.

I gained a lot of my interest in fashion from my mom. When I was growing up, she took a lot of care to dress me. She was my stylist then, and often is today. Growing up I remember watching the Red Carpets for all of the award shows. We loved critiquing all the dresses and style choices. So much of Fashion is critiquing and knowing when you’ve gone too far on a trend or outfit. Today I still watch the Red Carpets and love tuning into Fashion Police and following fashion accounts on Instagram. They give me style ideas and keep me up to date on trends, which is so important. As Heidi Klum says, “In fashion, one day you’re in and the next you’re out.”

I would describe my style as classic with an edge. I love the simple look of leather jacket, leggings and boots. You can also find me in anything Free People. Fashion to me is about what you like and the combinations you can make from within your closet. The options are truly limitless!

Black and white basic is such an easy look to create. It is always on trend and works with anything from formal to casual wear.  It is a timeless look worn by icons like Grace Kelly in the Rear Window or Julia Roberts at the Oscars. I paired a black pencil skirt with a simple black and white jacket. I chose pointed toe heels to complete the look. For accessories, I wore my favorite rings and a Fossil watch.  I finished the outfit with a polished side sweep as seen in the Balmain fall 2015 ready-to-wear show.

I’m looking forward to all of the Fashion I will be finding this semester. Be on the lookout to be discovered and showcased as a Syracuse Fashionista!
