STYLE GURU BIO: Kathleen Thomas

Hi guys! My name is Kathleen Thomas, and I couldn’t be happier to be bringing in the new year as a CollegeFashionista Style Guru. I am currently a freshman at Fordham University in New York City, and I plan on majoring in communications with a minor in fashion studies. I absolutely love fashion and all it entails, but I also have a passion for writing. I am so grateful to be interning for CollegeFashionista, which allows me to explore both of these interests.

I have been interested in the fashion industry for as long as I can remember, but I would say I began to pursue that interest when I took a job at a boutique in my town, South Moon Under. As a sales associate, I was able to familiarize myself with brands I had never heard of, trends I had never thought of, and overall my own personal style. During my junior and senior year of high school I was also lucky enough to be on my local Nordstrom’s BP. Fashion Board. There I was able to see the behind the scenes of merchandising, as well as give my input as to what girls my age were wearing or interested in buying. Overall, these opportunities I have had have been crucial in my interest of possibly finding a career in the fashion industry that allows me to utilize all that I have learned!

As a Style Guru I cannot wait to find Fashionistas/os who emulate great style! One of my favorite parts of living and going to school in New York City is everyone’s keen eye for fashion. The students walking around my campus are constantly giving me inspiration for future outfits and style choices. I am often astounded by people’s style risks, but then instantly want to try my own version of it. This year I have learned how important it is to take risks with my style and how rewarding it is when it turns out. That being said, as long as you are comfortable in your clothes, and feel that the outfit you have chosen is appropriate for YOU, then you are good to go! Dressing for yourself, and not others, is key.

I cannot reiterate enough how excited I am to be a part of CollegeFashionista this semester, and to share my style ideas with all of you. Stay posted and here’s to a stylish 2015!
