STYLE GURU BIO: Emily Watkins

My name is Emily Watkins and I am currently a sophomore at Miami University, sometimes known as J.Crew U, for the preppy way students dress. Most students here dress like they’re fresh off the runway so there’s never an end to the style inspiration around here.  Ever since I was a little girl I was amazed by all things clothes and makeup related.

I had always been a tomboy and never understood the true power of a great outfit. My style really began to develop in high school, where I discovered that you can dress to be comfortable and look good; a life changing revelation to me at the time. Over the years my style has developed into a very fine balance of girly and laid-back. The majority of my clothes are black and white, but when those colors go with everything, how can you go wrong?

In this post I’m wearing staple black skinny jeans that every girl should own. My pants are from Gap but you can find this style at virtually any store these days. I paired my jeans with a simple, loose white soft T-shirt from Lou & Grey, an offshoot of Ann Taylor. While black jeans and a white T-shirt may seem boring at first, it’s easy to spice the outfit up. To make my look more fashionable I added a black lace bralette from Aerie by American Eagle Outfitters, black booties from H&M and a cute floppy hat from Nordstrom to pull the whole look together. For a little extra flare I added three Alex and Ani bracelets and an old vintage locket from a thrift store. This outfit is timeless because it uses all classic pieces. No matter where one may go, by wearing an outfit like this, it’s ensured that you’ll make others stop and stare.
