STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Pre-Fall Vibes

October 20th, 2015 at 2:00am

The weather is finally starting to cool down in the Midwest, which means fall fashion is right around the corner. I don’t know about you guys, but fall is by far my favorite season to dress for. As the humidity dies down, so do the uncomfortable walks to class with your book bag glued to your back (we’ve all been there). Enter cozy jackets, chunky knits and over-sized silhouettes! Before we get fully immersed in autumn styles, we have to account for that awkward pre-fall period when there’s a slight chill in the air, but it’s still too warm to start doubling up on leggings. This Fashionista pulls together the ideal outfit for that in-between weather. A classic jean jacket and a flouncy floral dress are the perfect combo for a busy day of classes.

There are few things I love when seeing people rock more than a really rad piece of denim. The dark wash of this jacket anchors this look with an “old school classic” feel. The slightly oversized silhouette gives this piece a bit of a vintage vibe that looks effortless on this Fashionista. Try a similar jacket in a more distressed version and pair with black skinnies for an edgy-cool feel or with a flirty mini skirt for retro vibes.

This adorable little shift dress is such a wardrobe staple for fall. Stock up on these perfect pieces in prints, solids and cool textures. The style is super flattering but comfy enough to wear to class! This Fashionista rocks the flouncy frock in black with a thinly stenciled white floral pattern. Although the jacket toughens up the look, the flowers offer a fresh and playful feel to lighten it up. Try a dress with a bolder floral pattern in the same color family—when the weather cools down for real, wear it over tights and over-the-knee boots with a long, chunky cardigan.

This Fashionista keeps the accessories minimal, with a simple silver necklace, black booties and a leather backpack. The booties and bag keep the look streamlined, echoing the black background of the dress. Because I am currently obsessed with all things fringe, try this boho-chic bag to stow your books in on your way to class.

College is the perfect time for casual-chic clothing. “Wear what makes you feel good.  You have control over what you wear, so if you’re having a stressful day full of studying or midterms, wear something that makes you feel comfortable and confident! It’s an easy way to brighten your day,” says the Fashionista.
