STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Goth Girl

With the beginning of fall approaching, the time has come to start trying the trends that flocked the fall 2015 runways this past spring. One of the many trends presented during the shows was gothic revival, which showcased itself in the collections of designers like Alexander Wang, Alexander McQueen, Tom Ford and Haider Ackermann.

Although this trend has been continuously recycled and reinvented, this season’s gothic styles are much more sophisticated and complex, creating a fusion of both grit and glamour. By influencing goth with modernity, the term no longer defines a style that is purely characterized by dark lips, black hair and harsh clothing; rather, goth defines a style that provokes a mysterious darkness and unfamiliarity. While every designer approached goth with a different aesthetic, each engaged with the trend to create something innovative that deviates from the stereotype of the past. Many designers this season even combined gothic elements with other prevailing trends to provide a rich juxtaposition between their total effects.

So how does one wear this trend as a day-to-day look? This Fashionista utilizes a dark palette to give a moody edge to her outfit. By pairing an embellished dress with a black choker and chunky over-the-knee boots, she combines gothic and feminine pieces to create a modern style.

Whether you decide to take this trend more feminine and romantic or more dark and edgy, it is definitely a fall wardrobe must-have.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Instead of going full-force with the new trends, I try to blend them into my every-day wardrobe and take my own unique perspective on them, like I did with the gothic trend that I am obsessed with right now.”
