STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Back(pack) at it Again!

All throughout middle school and high school I never used a backpack. Tote bags to carry your books were the “thing” for girls. I rarely saw girls wearing backpacks, walking through the school so to be honest when I got to college it was almost bizarre seeing the amount of backpacks around campus, as crazy as it sounds. Now whether I’m going to work, school or running around the city you’ll rarely see me carrying a heavy tote bag on my arm.

“Term garment season” is a very popular term here at the Fashion Institute of Technology as a fashion design major. Usually near the end of the semester we’re up late sewing, draping and perfecting our garments so the only thing on your mind is to be comfortable. I mean, who wants to sit at a sewing machine for six hours wearing jeans? But, just because you’re comfortable doesn’t mean you can’t look stylish. This Fashionista paired her crewneck with harem pants to give a really cool, comfortable look. Her black and white adidas sneakers keep her comfortable especially when she’s on her feet draping and running around. Most importantly though, when carrying a term garment in one hand and a huge bag of muslin and sewing supplies in the other hand where are you supposed to put your wallet, keys and phone? Obviously, in a small backpack that slings right over your shoulder.

Backpacks now come in all shapes, sizes, colors and styles. No more of those boring school bags so you can easily carry one to match every outfit you have.
