ALL IN THE DETAILS: The Blues

Black and white outfits are always the way to go when you want to have a clean and sleek look. But as much as you love your blacks and whites, it is springtime and the weather calls for some more colors in your wardrobe. Luckily, monochromatic looks do not mean that you only have to dress in black and white! Monochromatic outfits can be pulled off with shades of any color.

I found this Fashionisto walking around campus sporting an outfit that is the epitome of monochromatic colors. The main colors he chose to work with are different shades of blue. However, he has hints of tan and khaki to give the outfit a more nautical J.Crew-esque feel. What makes his outfit so exemplary is that he creates dimensions to his look by adding prints and patterns. He picked the perfect plaid button-up with the right blue tones and a touch of red and turquoise. To continue with the blues, he added a puffy dark blue vest on top—a great way to keep warm during the cold nights. He rocks dark khaki trousers cuffed at the bottom to match the lining of his vest. He slipped on a pair of blue socks with red polka-dots, which complements the red in his plaid shirt. To finish it off, he has on a blue strapped watch and wooden bracelets. But let’s not forget, the pop of light blue on the sole of his tan oxfords.

As you can see, the love of monochromatic outfits doesn’t have to stay on the grayscale. Get some inspiration from this Fashionisto and add shades of color everywhere you can.

How To: Pick your favorite color. Find shades of that color in your outfit and piece them together. If you don’t want to be too overwhelmed by one color, go ahead and add hints of that color in your outfit. Play with prints and patterns, and always have fun with it!
