ALL IN THE DETAILS: Statement Skirt

April 9th, 2015 at 2:10am

Sure, statement necklaces are all the rage right now, but who says statement skirts can’t be a thing? It’s a commonly known fact that sometimes less is more, and that’s true in terms of fashion as well. It’s not always the best idea to pile on all your boldest and busiest pieces because the end result will be a very loud, and possibly obnoxious, ensemble. However, wearing one standout piece is never a bad idea, and it’s time to branch out from just letting jewelry take the stand! Skirts are a girl’s best friend in spring and summer, and what’s better than a skirt with its own personality!

Today’s Fashionista had a fabulous, brightly colored skirt on. It had all the colors of the color wheel on it in multiple different forms and patterns. Her skirt was somewhat high-waisted and was also pleated. It definitely was not a frat party type of skirt—this skirt was bold, but classy.

This Fashionista wore a pair of opaque black tights under her skirt, because after all, it’s still a little breezy in Philadelphia. Tucked into her skirt was a black lace top that added texture to her ensemble, which was really nice. Her top complemented her skirt well. On her feet she wore a pair of black, jelly sandals. You probably had a pair of these sandals—possibly in a pink, glittery version—when you were younger. As we know, all fashion trends come back around eventually, and believe it or not, this type of sandal is all the rage right now. I definitely recommend following her lead and getting yourself a pair! Though this Fashionista’s skirt was the center of attention, she also wore a simple, gold necklace to add a little shine to her ensemble and draw attention to her neck and face.

How To: Add a statement skirt to your own closet this spring! A bold skirt can be paired with anything from a formal blouse to a crop top. Skirts can be worn over tights, like today’s Fashionista demonstrated, or with bare legs. Your skirt could be long, short or anything in between. Skirts are not only ideal in the spring, but also summer and fall. Don’t feel like you have to ditch all your jewelry just because you’re wearing a stand out skirt! Feel free to sport your favorite accessories, just don’t go too overboard!
