Summer is all about being loud, late night barbecues with friends, screaming as you jump off the high board at your local pool and ear-splitting fireworks. Yet, what many forget is that summer is also the time to be just as bold with your clothing choices as you are with your seasonal adventures. While many Fashionistas and Fashionistos tend to lean toward solids as a way to keep it cool during the scorching summer months, bold prints and patterns are just as necessary for any well-rounded wardrobe. Not only do these pieces bring color to every ensemble, but they offer a chicer alternative to the quintessential sundress or cut-off denim shorts.
This Fashionista’s pants immediately caught my eye because of the bold pattern. I’m not one to wear bold prints or colors on pants, so I admired her even more for being able to pull of this to-die-for piece. The zipper detailing on the pockets dress the pants up (she told me she wore them to a recent interview!), but also provide shape to the tailored details on the front of the pants. She went for a casual, white tee so that all of the attention would be called to the print. Lastly, her choice of J.Crew Malta sandals offered a simple look against the bold nature of the print.
How To: Bold prints and patterns can be tricky, but manageable if you know how to style them correctly. Pair bold pieces with simple items, such as solid tees or white pants. If you’re going all out with a print dress, such as one from Lilly Pulitzer, keep your accessories down to a minimum. The trick is to draw attention to the print without overwhelming the eye; you don’t want to look tacky!
