ALL IN THE DETAILS: Punk Rock Revisited

Fashion today is never just one style or label. Rather, most trendsetters take different elements of genres to create a whole new unique look. Not only is fashion a way to set off trends but also to express personality and interests. One trend that specifically tells the world who you are is the punk rock look. Punk rock Fashionistas/os are ardent music fans who lean towards a non-materialistic yet edgy way to reflect the alternative rock music they’re listening to.

I spotted this Fashionisto sporting dark denim and bold silver earrings that lean towards the punk rock trend. However, his shirt and shoe choices added an element of grunge. The striped shirt and striped socks, although different colors were similar enough to work in the same outfit. A crucial component to mastering the band member look is a pair of worn yet sturdy boots. You can find similar staples to achieve this style here and here. This season be on the lookout for flannels, oversized jackets, printed shirts and statement shoes to pull off this look.

Punk rock expresses rebellion and individualism. When asked about his style this Fashionisto had to say, “I like to mix punk rock, grunge and hip hop details when I’m getting dressed. I found this jacket at a thrift store and lately I’ve been exploring different ways to express who I am. There was a time I wasn’t comfortable dressing like this but now I really like the way it all comes together.” This Fashionisto’s look has evolved over time and his closet now consists of carefully selected items from over the years that have personal meaning.

To get his look, pair skinny jeans or cargo jeans with a black jacket or denim vest. Layer a band T-shirt under your jacket and finish off the look with bold metal accessories and roughed up boots. Stay away from name brands and try to look for pieces from surplus stores to really get an authentic look. After all, “Punks Not Dead” and neither is your ability to find cool alternative looks.
