ALL IN THE DETAILS: Not All Black

I’m a sucker for an all-black outfit. I find that they’re easy to construct while still looking like you put in a lot of effort. I spotted this Fashionista in the parking structure on my way home from a final and knew I needed to capture this killer ensemble. I’m never disappointed by the fashion I see on campus, but I was especially taken aback because of the time of year: finals week. I was sitting there sporting Lululemon’s and a dad cap, while this Fashionista looked like she was about to walk a fashion show.

Like I said before, an all-black ensemble is a great palette to create an outfit with. This Fashionista took it even further by adding this incredibly chic, pastel pink, duster over the all-black. Using the black jeans and top as a groundwork, she creatively layered this jaw-dropping duster and complementary accessories to bring the whole look together. Her accessories included a black hat, layered black chokers, and open-toed heels.

Never be afraid to add a fun jacket or a pop of color to an all-black look. If you’re afraid of looking too cheesy, play around with monochrome colors or accessories, like this Fashionista. Building up the accessories is my favorite part of any look. If you’re not a fan of accessories, feel free to play with makeup. A neutral eye with a dark lip goes a long way, trust me.

You can also take an outfit from day to night just by adding an extra layer. An all-black look can be great for a casual day. Throw on a duster and some plum lips, and you’re ready to paint the town red.
