ALL IN THE DETAILS: Kimo-no? Kimo-yes!

As the temperatures start to rise, styles start to change. Gone are the fuzzy boots and down coats, and out come the flowy fabrics and peek-a-boo clothing. While it’s not yet summer, a light outer layer is still necessary on some of those windier days. We’ve seen the raincoats, light parkas and cardigans, but it’s time to say hello to a new fashion friend–the kimono.

I came across my first kimono last summer at Forever 21, and I knew I had to have it as soon as I saw it. I knew it would be an amazing statement piece to throw over any of my mainly neutral wardrobe to add some fun patterns. This Fashionista had the same idea.

This Fashionista stood out, yet looked completely at ease, in the campus art building. As art kids, we’re used to either wearing all-black or extremely colorful clothing. This Fashionista rocks both. Her kimono looks great over her all-black ensemble. It matches perfectly with the hints of black in the coloring and patterns. The colors are great for anytime of the year, too.

With kimonos usually fitting on the looser side, it is smart to keep the rest of the outfit more fitted. A crop top was a great choice for a little hint of skin. Matching the top with an awesome pair of button-up high-waisted jeans was a great piece to add. The top and bottom show just enough skin to not to be too revealing. The red glossy Dr. Martens give the final edgy touch to this perfect outfit.

How To: Mix up your usual jackets or cardigans and try a flowy kimono. Wear one over a dress for a bohemian style or over jeans and sneakers for a more casual look. These light fabric pieces are great to throw over just about anything. Don’t be afraid to play around with different colors and patterns.
