ALL IN THE DETAILS: High-Rise

The ’70s high-waisted trend has made a full force comeback in jeans, pants, leggings, skirts and shorts that are seen on students all over campus. These pieces transcend seasons and have been extremely popular for a couple of years now. Originally high-waisted clothing was related to hipsters and hippies, but it is now associated with all fashion styles. From gothic to preppy, there will definitely be high-rise items worn.

This Fashionista looks spring ready with her high-waisted jeggings and light cardigan. We discussed how high-waisted jeans and jeggings are her go-to outfit staple since they are comfortable. All you have to do is tuck in a shirt or a sweater, and you are ready to go! She pairs her jeggings with a white Ralph Lauren V-neck and an oversized beige cardigan. You can get a similar light brown cardigan from Forever 21 or one from H&M. To finish off her look, she wears classic white Vans and gold framed Ray-Ban Aviators. This Fashionista was working on a group project when I ran into her, and instead of a backpack, she uses a large black Le Pliage Longchamp tote. As demonstrated by this Fashionista, high-waisted jeans are an easy way to create causal yet trendy look.

How To: Don’t know if this trend is right for you? High-rise pieces come in every style, so shop at your favorite store to find the piece(s) you like best. Experiment with shorts, pants or skirts. Then tuck in any shirt or wear with a crop top, and you’re rocking the high-waisted trend!
