ALL IN THE DETAILS: Go For Green

Anyone who has ever looked inside my closet knows that I love neutrals. Although I’m probably never going to abandon my mostly neutral wardrobe completely, spring is one of my favorite seasons because it means the return of color—both in nature and more importantly, in the outfits of my fellow students. However, incorporating a brightly colored standout piece into an easy everyday look without going over the top can sometimes be challenging. This Fashionista shows us how to maintain the perfect balance between dull and overdone.

This Fashionista adds a fun touch of color to her look with a bright green skater skirt. Instead of going all-out with color, she keeps the rest of her outfit fairly neutral, showing us that sometimes less is more. By using only her skirt to incorporate bright color into her look, she draws attention to this standout piece. When choosing a similar standout item, the key is to balance it with pieces that make the look seem effortless. This Fashionista’s downplayed chambray button-up and white T-shirt give the look a cool, laid back vibe. In addition, this outfit has great transitional value. It’s casual enough for daily activities but her colorful skirt can easily be dressed up for a night out.

How To: There’s no better time to take advantage of the warmer weather and add some color to your wardrobe. Choose a standout piece like a bag, shirt or skirt for a pop of color and keep the rest of your outfit simple and neutral for a look that is eye-catching without being overstated.
