ALL IN THE DETAILS: All Year Ankle Boot

It’s safe to say that we’re finally making the delightful transition into spring. I, for one, am excited for the warmer weather, longer days and overall loveliness that comes during springtime. The thing that can be tricky about spring is dressing for it. After months and months of bundling up in as many layers as we could find lying around our apartment, it almost feels unnatural to discard that way of dressing while instantly changing into ballet flats and frocks.

Over the years, I’ve learned that it’s best to ease into spring, just as this Fashionista did. She wore a light denim jacket which featured a cool Aztec print on the back, a thin beige sweater, black leggings and black ankle boots. What I liked most about her look was that she still recognized that her ankle boots can definitely work as a spring shoe. Booties have become such a staple in nearly everyone’s winter wardrobe that it’s hard to imagine them functioning during any other time of the year. Personally, I am an ankle boot hoarder and have an embarrassing number of pairs. But my favorite pair has helped me survived through blizzards, ten inches of snow, slippery sidewalks—you name a catastrophe that happened this past winter, I can tell you I was definitely wearing those ankle boots. By this point in the year I always feel too ready to retire them with the rest of my boots and make an immediate switch to sandals and flats. Running into this Fashionista made me realize that even in the spring, ankle boots are still the ultimate shoe, which in turn made me feel less guilty about how many pairs I own. They’re not overwhelming in the warmer weather like a riding boot is. Booties are simple, keep you cool and add a certain edge to your look.

Now that we all comprehend just how amazing and versatile of a shoe the ankle boot is, it’s time that we invest in a pair. It may feel odd buying boots in March, but you’ll be glad you did once you see how much wear you’ll get out of them. This cutout pair from Urban Outfitters is a great place to start–they’re simple and functional all while being super adorable. If you’re more of a Chelsea boot girl like myself, these boots from ASOS are gorgeous and give off a vintage feel. And finally, if you like something with a heel, you can’t go wrong with this pair from Anthropologie.

Spring may be here, but that doesn’t mean your ankle boots have to go anywhere. Go ahead and slip them on, and get as much use out of everyone’s favorite shoe for the next few months.

How To: This Fashionista’s look is super easy to steal–just pop on your favorite denim jacket and ankle boots. You can even switch out the leggings for black skinny jeans and get the same effect.
