ALL IN THE DETAILS: Accessories Not Included

It’s October and officially autumn, but the weather here in Massachusetts is just starting to get on the same page as this fall Fashionista. Inspired to start incorporating fall colors, more conservative pieces and layering techniques into her outfits, she had to get creative to still stay cool. While I generally think about accessories when I think about detailed outfits, this Fashionista taught me that accessories aren’t always necessary to create an eye-catching ensemble.

Her retro outfit payed a lot of tribute to trends of the past, which are reemerging as trends of the present. The blue and brown stripe color combo is super nostalgic, especially when used as a layering piece. Layering turtlenecks under tank top style shirts and dresses is not only really in, but a really good way of wearing your summer clothes year-round. The Fashionista’s maroon dress is a perfect fall color and the contrast against the turtleneck draws attention to one of the many little details hidden within this outfit: the dissimilar straps. One thicker and one thin strap are a unique feature but add a lot of personality to the simple dress. To reflect that asymmetry, the Fashionista tied up one side of the mid-length maroon dress. Another homage to the past are the Fashionista’s Dr. Martens. The ’90s grunge staple has seen a resurgence in recent years. The rebellious embellishment really plays down the dress, making it as casual as it is comfortable.

While this Fashionista isn’t sporting arms stacked with bracelets or a statement necklace, she still makes a statement. Through the combination of multiple unique, retro pieces and styling them in her own way, this Fashionista eloquently rocks this eclectic, detailed outfit.
