ALL IN THE DETAILS: A Little Bit of Floral and A Dash of Lace

The little things are what make big things happen. It is often the small details of an outfit that transforms it into something special. The embellishments are like the stars in Van Gogh’s “The Starry Night;” it adds the extra sparkle to make the look shine.

The use of lace and floral print in fashion has been around for many decades. Both details symbolize elegance and continue to bloom as fashion evolves. Floral and lace are timeless elements. It can give a vintage face and show the rich history behind the garment or take on an artistic modern flair, capturing the fast-paced passion today’s times bring. It is fascinating to look back on historic and significant garments to see the common patterns and finishes that resurface on the current runways of today’s fashion. I find that floral and lace brings back memories. From the floral-print summer dress my grandmother sewed me to when I was young, the lace piece I wore when I turned eighteen to the small lace details that accessorized my outfit when I walked the red carpet, it is the small detail of the outfit I wore that contributed to big moments I will always remember.

In this look, the details are what sparkles the loudest. The purple color scheme is symbolic as purple garments have been worn in momentous moments and recently have stood for uniting together the various pieces. The lace detailing of the kimono gives the piece a classic feel and adds a touch of elegance.

This particular romper reminds me of Monet’s “Water Lilies” series with a modern twist. The velvet texture adds depth and creates the urge to reach out and grasp the flowers. With the darker shades of purple, the romper is easily transitional for all the seasons.
Accessorizing the outfit is a studded shoulder bag. The bag is a simple concept, a black leather piece hung by a gold chain. It is brought to life by the metal detailing scattered across the front.

In life’s largest moments, the little pieces are what make it so memorable. When looking from afar you see the big picture, but as you get closer, you see the smaller details that complete the puzzle. This is reflected in the small details and embellishments sewn into a garment that transforms it into a masterpiece.
