STYLE GURU BIO: Maria Gorecki

Hello my fashionable friends! I am so excited to have the opportunity to be a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista and look forward to writing for all the loyal readers from the beautiful University of Delaware campus. Before I go out and meet you trendy people, let me tell you a bit about myself.

My name is Maria Gorecki and I am from the great state of New York. I am a sophomore Fashion Merchandising major at the University of Delaware. When I’m not studying my stitches and seams, I run for the Women’s Club Cross Country and Track and Field team, and I am an active member of my sorority.

As a fashion major, it’s pretty obvious that I love fashion. It’s one of the first things you see when you look at someone. It gives an impression without saying a word. It breaks through language barriers and it’s a global phenomenon. Most importantly, it’s timeless. Fashion finds its roots dating back to the first civilizations and has continued to evolve. I love tracing back my latest style obsessions to see how and when they started. Take the iconic cat eye: the pharaohs created that one and Taylor Swift, you can thank Miss Cleopatra for those red lips. While I’m no history buff, I love fashion because you can mix it with history. In fact, I don’t think I have a specific style, but my looks of the day or season are usually based around a decade. Right now, I love my ’70s styled flare jeans and platform heels that I rock with my mom’s crop top from the ’80s. But who knows what this fall season will bring.

Before I go, here are some of my fashion guidelines: Your mom’s closet is the best resource and your greatest accessory is confidence. Rock what you want, when you want and I cannot wait to see what you have to bring.

I am looking forward to an amazing fashion filled fall season, and remember, in the words of Lily Pulitzer, “Style isn’t just about what you wear, it’s about how you live.”
