STYLE GURU BIO: Madeline Farr

Hi, hello and how are you fellow Fashionistas/os? My name is Madeline Farr, and I’m a senior at Appalachian State University. I’m currently a Music Industry Studies major with a dual concentration in Recording and Marketing and a minor in General Business— I know, it’s a mouthful. You may find it odd that nothing I’m studying is even remotely related to the fashion industry, but I assure you that my obsession with all things fashion is a force to be reckoned with. This is my first semester as a Style Guru and my excitement is almost too much to contain.

I wish I had one defining moment that I could point to and say, “That’s it, that’s where I fell in love with fashion.” However, the truth is that it’s something that happened so naturally. Being in control of my style is what makes me feel confident. It’s how I show the world my beauty. For people like me, beauty changes every day. One day I’ll be rocking a black leather jacket with black leggings and a bright red lip, and the next day I’ll throw on a ruffled button-down with a bright A-line skirt. I think that having fun with your style allows you to show the world that you are beautiful. My goal is to have that translate as I write more posts as a Style Guru.

To me, it’s just as important to feel good as it is to do good. I can write papers for Marketing classes all day long, but I’m still going to need to take a day to get a manicure (which I’m long overdue for). Taking the time to take care of yourself boosts your self-esteem in a way that only benefits your mental health. Let yourself be pampered and buy the shoes you want so badly. Even try out the lipstick you think might make you stand out a little more than you’re used to. You’d be surprised what good it can do for you and I’m exactly the type of person to notice, and make a big deal about the confidence you’re showing.

When I’m not running around and obsessing over random pedestrians’ new haircuts or booties, I’m usually taking a yoga class, baking from scratch (most of the time) or running a seemingly endless amount of errands for music school. More often than not though, I have spent an unreasonable amount of time planning the perfect outfit and beauty strategy for each situation.

Here’s to a great fall semester!
