STYLE GURU BIO: Khortlyn Cole

Hey y’all! My name is Khortlyn Cole. Much to my dismay, I’m officially a senior at The University of Texas at Austin. I’m graduating with a degree in journalism and a minor in sociology. What’s to come after graduation is up in the air, as things tend to be when working in journalism, though I’m hoping to work in fashion journalism.

This is my first semester as a Style Guru, and I’m beyond excited to begin working with the CollegeFashionista team. Surprisingly, I didn’t always want to work in fashion. I like to say that I just gained a fashion sense within the past three to four years. I was very into sports from middle school to high school, so I never bothered putting on cute clothes or dressing nicely. For me, education stopped at 12:00 p.m. and practice started at 12:01 p.m., so what was the point of NOT wearing sweats and a T-shirt every day?

Now that I’ve gotten interested in fashion it has completely taken over my life. I find my inspiration from the always beautiful Rihanna as well as Selena Gomez, Karrueche Tran, and sometimes Gigi Hadid. If I were to describe my style, I would call it a combination of urban and feminine. You can see hints of both in the outfit I’m wearing. The criss cross v neck brings more of a stereotypically feminine touch to an oversized band tee and tucking in one side of the shirt gives a small shape to the shirt.

I’m stoked to work with the CF team and share the styles trending in the heart of Texas!
