ALL IN THE DETAILS: Match Maker

September 30th, 2015 at 2:00am

Back in grade school, my favorite day, usually at the end of August was the day I went back-to-school shopping. There was, and still is, nothing better than a new fall wardrobe. Walking into the new year feeling confident, beautiful and RAD was the absolute best. Transitioning from wearing summer tank tops to the newly purchased sweaters is the hardest part about going back to school. Well, it is the hardest part besides getting back into classes! Luckily for me, I am surrounded by Fashionistas on campus that give me unique ideas to use both summer and fall pieces in my outfits.

This Fashionista turns the tables on all “rules” of fashion. She completely ditches the idea of having shoes and handbags match your lipstick. Instead, this Fashionista plays matchmaker between prints, textures and accessories that most would not have put together. It is always the two people that don’t seem they should be together that make it to the finish line, right?

This Fashionista has mixed two bold prints that definitely parallel her bold personality. She pairs a sheer, navy and white polka-dot printed blouse tucked into green and navy plaid bermuda length shorts. On top of the blouse, the Fashionista rocks a navy velvet blazer that completes a perfect transition outfit. The shorts, blazer and heavier fabrics are most likely worn in cooler months. The light blouse underneath allows the Fashionista to stay cool in class if the jacket is too warm.

Many people prefer to wear either gold or silver jewelry and avoid mixing at all costs. This Fashionista also ignores that fashion “rule.” She wears a gold choker neatly tucked underneath her collar, a simple silver band ring, and a large moonstone ring. Though silver and gold is not typically mixed, not one of the Fashionista’s accessories look out of place. Each add to her bold style. For one more bold touch, the Fashionista sports red leather booties that also tie her outfit into the approaching fall season. The booties also match her red bike! So this Fashionista is suited up to ride into the sunset, well, to class!

How To: First, do not be afraid to mix new prints or textures! Even on a cooler day, get an extra use out of those summery palazzo pants and pair them with a fall sweater and some booties. There is no such thing as the “right” top or bottom for its opposite any more. Take a chance, that is the only thing to it.
