ALL IN THE DETAILS: Light Colors for the Winter

If you ask any seasoned Fashionista in New York what you should wear, they are most likely going to recommend something black. Black leather, black denim, black boots, black hair, black eye shadow (just kidding we’re not that obsessed). Black or dark clothes in general are supposed to keep us warmer because it absorbs sunshine rather than reflect it. Also it is known to be very slimming and chic for anybody who wears it. But wearing black all the time can be a bit much. I am here to tell and show you that it is more than okay to wear light colors in the winter.

Personally I gravitate to the color white all year round. The idea that you can’t wear white after Labor Day died years ago and I think it is time to embrace the idea of wearing color.

Fashionista decided to tone down her pale pink top and nude strappy heels with darker jeans to provide a nice contrast of color.  To complete her look she added a rose gold watch. This look really caught my eye because it was so bright in comparison to what I have seen this winter which was mostly dark tones such as olive, maroon, and navy. It was very refreshing to see some color especially to brighten the gloomy weather of New York.

Pale blues, pastel pinks, white, taupe, and nude are just some of the light tones that can be worn during the fall/winter. Be sure that these colors match your skin tone and undertone as you do not want to look washed out or drab. Try to figure out which color looks best on you so that you can begin to stray away from the dreaded black. By pairing lightly colored tops with darker bottoms instead of light bottoms with dark tops, you will not look as if you are trying to bring spring back into existence. Also pairing a dark top with a light bottom can be somewhat overpowering and distracting depending on how dark the color actually is, whereas pairing a light top with dark bottoms, like this Fashionista did, can create an effortless and trendy look that everyone will be envious of.
