ALL IN THE DETAILS: Dare to do Denim

Leaves are changing, winds are blowing and pumpkin spice lattes are in full swing. That means one thing: fall fashion! Fall fashion is a favorite to many. We crave fall weather so we can get our hands onto the latest fashion trends. Fall fashion is always a mix of timeless pieces like chunky sweaters, flannels and boots and whatever is on trend that season. A trend that I really would like to bring attention to is denim.

Denim was huge this past summer, but the trend is being brought into fall. Whether it’s a classic pair of denim jeans, a denim mini skirt or even a vintage denim jacket, the more denim, the better.

We see a mix of classic fall fashion and the denim trend in this Fashionista’s look. She decided to go for a maroon colored button-up skirt, boots, high socks and a vintage denim jacket. The jacket really brought the entire look together and created a perfect ensemble for fall.

Within the denim trend, I’ve noticed another trend: completely distressed denim. I’ve seen ripped up vintage jackets and fringed and ripped jeans all over social media. Everybody has been wearing this trend, whether it’s college students here at Penn State or celebrities and social media influencers.

The best part about the denim trend is that you can dress it up or dress it down. Let’s take the fringed denim jeans for example. You can wear them casually with a pair of sneakers and a graphic T-shirt during the day, and at night you can pair it with a pair of heels and a bodysuit. This trend can come at a high price, but it’s worth it for the versatility. You can take denim and truly make it your own.

I’ve seen this distressed denim trend at boutiques like LF and even bigger stores like Urban Outfitters and Topshop. I don’t see this trend fading, so I definitely recommend grabbing yourself some denim and styling it to make it completely your own. That is the best part about fashion, you create your own definition of it!
