STYLE GURU STYLE: Victorian Secret

Romanticism swept over the runways this season with inspiration from vintage Victorian fashion. This style radiates class with high necklines, romantic lace and intricate embroidery. They say fashion comes back every 20 years, but this trend is even more of a throwback! It was featured in the Alexander McQueen spring 2016 ready-to-wear show. The pieces possessed dainty details and ruffles creating the perfect feminine ensembles. The color palette featured lighter colors, such as whites and soft pinks, which added to the romantic effect. The return of Victorian style brings back a sense of sophistication and elegance rarely seen in modern clothing.

This trend can be intimidating when first looking at it. However, during my experimentation of styling it, I discovered otherwise. Victorian-inspired looks are wearable to the workplace, date night or even daily wear. Another great thing about it is that minimal accessorizing is necessary. All that I needed to add to my look was my black faux leather cross-body to carry my essentials. The top is such a statement piece that it speaks for itself, and it is better left as the focal point without distractions.

To adapt this style for an everyday look, I found a Victorian-inspired blouse at Charlotte Russe. The color palette from the Alexander McQueen show inspired me to choose a pure white color top for my ensemble. Next, I paired the top with my favorite pair of American Eagle Outfitters Denim X jeggings. Since the look was monochromatic, I topped it off with a bold, bright red lipstick for a pop of color. Incorporation of these elements helps to modernize the style while maintaining the grace of its inspiration.

Vintage Victorian fashion has made itself quite present in the fashion world lately, so make it present in your wardrobe as well!
