STYLE GURU STYLE: The Feminine Punk

There’s nothing like a dose of black and whites and a dark lip to really bring out your fall fashion spirit.

This look, inspired by the alice + olivia fall 2015 ready-to-wear line, brings together some of my favorite fall trends. Said to have been inspired by a combination of the late ’60s and rock ‘n’ roll, the line still manages to come across both feminine and polished, two classic alice + olivia traits. In case you’ve missed it, turtlenecks have been everywhere on the runway over the past few seasons, and alice + olivia’s fall line is no exception. In this show, there were instances where a dark black turtleneck was balanced with a pair of equally monochromatic statement shorts, which, in my case, was a pair of high-waisted, pleated shorts.

To add my own twist to the look, I deviated from the generally preppy and more formal alice + olivia style to more of a punk vibe, adding in a fake leather bomber jacket as opposed to a tailored blazer. The show was also laden with leather boots; however, I found partnering these bold boots with shorts to be less wearable in real life, so I opted for my favorite black platforms instead.

To tie my look together, I painted my lips with a dark mix of red and purple, a similar lip color as to what was used by alice + olivia. This dash of color added a sense of adventure and uniqueness to an otherwise basic black and white palette. Not to mention, dark purples are one of the best lipstick colors to make a statement with during the cold months of fall and winter!

Get My Look: 1. A black turtleneck. 2. Black and white shorts. 3. Purple lipstick.
