STYLE GURU STYLE: That’s So ’70s Style

One thing that I love about fashion is that a lot of trends never go out of style. Don’t get me wrong, some trends should stay in the past, but I’m happy to welcome back some of the fads of the ‘70s. This ‘70s revival was present in Rebecca Minkoff’s fall 2015 runway collection, which I am absolutely obsessed with! I love how she was able to incorporate some of the ‘70s greatest trends such as fringe, suede and leather and give it an edgy boho twist. This collection inspired me to create my own ‘70s outfit by incorporating some of these timeless trends while simultaneously adding in my own sass to give the look a little edge with a bohemian flare.

My runway-ready look consists of a mini caramel colored faux suede skirt from PacSun. I paired the skirt with a jet-black turtleneck bodysuit from Tobi. Although the soft suede material and high neckline shirts were popular in the ‘70s, I have been seeing these trends all over campus this fall. I was inspired by the use of leather in Rebecca Minkoff’s collection so I paired my ensemble with knee-high black lace up boots that are flying off the shelves at Forever 21. These shoes gave the classic ‘70s style a little edge and also dressed up the look so I could wear it out at night.

I decided to add some funky accessories to my look to make it fun and sassy. I opted for a beaded lariat necklace with a black stone on the end from Free People. Of course I needed to highlight one of the ’70s biggest trends so I added my Vegan Crazyheart black leather fringe tote. I received this Free People tote over a year ago and paired it with so many different groovy outfits. This is a timeless tote that I can see myself using in the years to come. Even though styles may change, I think the ‘70s fringe trend will always remain!
