STYLE GURU STYLE: Take It to the Streets

Spring is in the air, and skin is becoming visible again. Here in the city, warm weather hit us oddly early this year. But hey, I’m not complaining! Global warming allowed me to take out my T-shirt dresses especially sooner than later this season.

My style truly varies. One day I’ll take a super casual approach with a white T-shirt and a pair of classic denim jeans. Other days, I’ll get girly with a sweater dress and booties. The only point that tends to stay the same throughout all is my color palette. Neutrals, neutrals, neutrals!  Although, there is one exceptional style when it comes to color in my wardrobe; that would be streetwear. Moving to New York City has definitely changed my view on streetwear. Rather than fearing it, I’m trying it out and embracing it.

Street style was never an acquired taste in my hometown, so coming to the city, I was ready to try new aesthetics. All over the boroughs, brands establish sample sales. A sample sale is used by retail businesses in order to discard excess merchandise. Recently, Opening Ceremony had their latest semiannual sample sale in Brooklyn. At these markets, you can cop designer pieces for up to 90 percent off. Streetwear is super prevalent at sample sales.

The Opening Ceremony T-shirt dress I’m pictured in is from the sample sale. It was originally a men’s shirt that I bought in an XL to wear as a T-shirt dress. This trick can be used a ton of times with many tops if you just don’t feel like having another regular fit T-shirt in your closet. Paired with the dress are my Steve Madden knee-high, heeled boots. To finish off the outfit, I wore oversize hoops, a thick velvet choker, and a bold Nyx lip. This outfit can be worn out or just around and about. Don’t be afraid to try new styles, because I’m loving this one!
