STYLE GURU STYLE: Swing Into Spring

The form-fitting, bodycon trend is still very much in style thanks to our favorite style icons, the Kardashians. However, there is an emerging trend that is about to give the bodycon a run for its money—the trapeze fit. This fit is the polar opposite of form-fitting and instead is a more flowy and fun style. Valentino’s fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection embraced this trapeze style in almost all of its pieces. Its looks prove that the trapeze style is one of the most transitional trends of the season. With the chic and silky look 34, a perfect dress for a formal event, to look 35, a breezy option for an afternoon exploring the city or look 27, a fun and colorful option for a night out. Each of these looks embrace the trend in different manners, but each has one aspect in common, the flowy nature of the dress is still flattering.

Some women embrace the bodycon trend because they want to wear clothing that will accentuate their figure instead of getting lost in excess fabric. However, the trapeze dress is still extremely flattering because its flowy nature still allows for women’s figures to be clear, without the discomfort of the skin tight style.

I’ve been embracing the trapeze trend a lot with the recent 50-degree temperatures. This is the perfect style for spring because it can transition perfectly throughout the day. Here, I’m seen wearing a long sleeve dress paired with black suede over-the-knee boots. This is my go-to outfit for afternoons out shopping and with friends. When it comes time to transition for nighttime, I either keep the boots or swap them out for a pair of black booties, and throw on a leather jacket over top for those chilly spring nights.

Investing in the trapeze trend is definitely worthwhile this upcoming spring. From dresses, to shirts and skirts, the flawy and fun fit of the trend is a refreshing change for your wardrobe, and you’ll find yourself questioning how you ever lived without these pieces.

Get My Look: 1. Find the perfect trapeze dress. Be sure it’s not too big on you, though, since it is already so flowy. 2. Pair it with over-the-knee boots to balance out the shorter hem of the dress. 3. Accessorize with your favorite jewelry. I chose my go-to necklace.
