STYLE GURU STYLE: Sweet Rebellion

I’m always one for easy fashion. The fewer pieces an outfit requires, the better for me! I’m also a huge fan of dark colors, so I was instantly drawn to this fashion trend.

The inspiration for this outfit came from Rebecca Minkoff’s spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection. The collection started off with flowy pieces in ivory and bone, before giving way to flirty all-black outfits. Accessorized with big earrings and structured bags, Minkoff displayed the new cool girl looks of the season: the sweet rebel.

My look drew from the second half of the collection. Monochromatic outfits can be risky at times, but I felt confident that I could pull off the all-black look. The key was picking pieces with feminine edges, to keep it from coming off too harsh.

For my look, I paired a ruffled romper from CottonOn with my favorite Rock & Republic ankle boots. I loved the contrast of hard and soft between the two. I added long earrings made from finished wood, a favorite street fair find of mine, and a simple black cross-body bag. Since my outfit was all-black, I kept my makeup very neutral, giving my lips a sheer pop of color with Tarte’s Lipsurgence lip tint in Glitzy.

Black never goes out of style, but it is always being done in new ways. I absolutely love this sweet interpretation of black. Hard and soft never looked so good together! Adding some pieces to your wardrobe to try out this trend means that you’ll have plenty of cute pieces to mix and match into your wardrobe.

Get My Look: 1. A flirty romper. 2. Bold earrings. 3. A structured bag.
