STYLE GURU STYLE: Supersize It

No matter what the season, plaid always seems to be a popular pattern. This spring/summer 2016 season is no exception. Plaid patterns were featured in many collections including Marissa Webb’s. However, this is no ordinary plaid print. Designers this season have decided to supersize the pattern for an added twist. The plaid print can be found on everything including skirts, jackets, pants, dresses and blouses.

This trend is perfect for the unpredictable spring and early summer months because of its versatility. During this season some days will be a sweltering hot while others will barely reach 60 degrees. The oversized plaid trend can be worn in many different ways no matter the weather.

I decided to try out the trend myself on a chilly morning in May. A classic flannel button-down with a large plaid print is the perfect way to stay on trend yet cozy in the gloomy weather. I paired the flannel with distressed skinny jeans, black Chelsea boots, and reflective sunglasses. This outfit is perfect for running errands, studying for exams or grabbing brunch with your friends.

On a warm spring day, try a printed cotton flannel or a flowy plaid skirt. Keep your outfit from looking too overdone by pairing the oversized plaid print with neutrals. A cute pair of sandals will transition your look from winter to spring. No matter the weather or the occasion, oversized plaid print will be a huge trend this season.
