STYLE GURU STYLE: Spring Feeling

Can I get a “Whoop whoop” for sandal season? The sun may have been hiding behind some clouds in these photos, but it was warm enough to break out my platform wedge metallic sandals. By adding a printed jacket to my outfit, I was able to able to keep the spring vibes and stay warm if the coastal weather decided to change its mind.

This outfit was inspired by many elements in the Norma Kamali spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection. In this collection there is a mix of flared silhouettes, playful prints, bold black and white color palettes, quirky double buns and so much more all rolled together like monster cookie dough. The entire collection was inspiring for me, so I pieced together my favorite elements to create my signature look.

In all honesty, I own a lot of black clothing. In this outfit I wanted to challenge myself to bring some more color to my look. The flared denim jeans are a lighter color and different style than I normally wear. It has been a challenge to style them, so I tried to jump out of my normal routine by wearing them with this outfit. I combined them with a simple black tank top to highlight the vibrant blue of the denim. The platform wedge sandals were the perfect way to get a little more height and ensure I wouldn’t trip on the length. The bold animal print jacket is very reflective of the patterns and mood inherent to the Norma Kamali spring 2016 collection. Graphic, but light. Edgy, but quirky and fun. Therefore, the blazer was a must use while piecing together my outfit. The low double messy buns were my take on the styling of the models’ hair. The quirky braids and buns were so energetic that I wanted to incorporate some of that energy into my spring look. Sun is out, fun is out, right? In terms of accessories, my staple jewelry of late has been this tiger eye crystal necklace, a silver cuff and a mala bead bracelet. I never take them off, and the simple characteristics of the jewelry work with the outfit by not overpowering the bold printed jacket.

This outfit was definitely out of my comfort zone. Winter had me in a routine of wearing a lot of black and grey. Now that it is spring, it was time to try something different! I encourage all Fashionistas/os to add some more color to their wardrobe. Don’t be afraid to have some fun!
