STYLE GURU STYLE: Semester Dims Brings Autumn Brims

December 20th, 2016 at 2:06am

The pressures of finals are drifting away and all of the semester’s stress is in the past. I must say the semester went by quickly, but let’s hope winter break slows down; I am so not ready for spring classes yet! After a week of unwashed hair and wearing sweats to class, the best way to celebrate the end of the semester is with a bomb outfit—at least that’s how I’ll be celebrating. I decided to experiment a little bit with this look, summoning inspiration from Edeline Lee’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection.

My personal style changes along with the seasons and varies by mood. With the start of winter just around the corner and the cold already settling in, my style tends to range from preppy to modern grunge. This outfit just happens to be the perfect blend of both styles.

I would describe Edeline Lee’s fall 2015 collection as a stylish take on business casual through a variety of suits and dresses. Pleated pants and hats were definitely stand out items throughout the collection. While the colors and patterns in the collection often matched from top to bottom, I decided to stay away from all black—and we all know how tempting that is!

I chose mustard pleated pants from Forever 21 and paired them with an all-black top with a white collar. The colored bottoms allow the outfit to come alive and be fun, which is exactly the way I want to end my semester. The black wide-brim hat also brings some flavor to the look and even though hats are just accessories, the outfit would not be complete without it.

The long duster vest and heeled combat boots add grunge elements to the overall preppy look. Long dusters are definitely on trend this season and they have been my go-to item all semester. They just complement almost any outfit so well, while adding a bit of edge. My heeled boots allow this ensemble to be more casual than business, plus they are a great stylish touch.

Gold jewelry and my every day long strapped purse simply accent the overall look. Finals are over and I am ready to strut all over town with my friends or maybe even have a nice “I made it” brunch date. The possibilities are endless, but I know I’ll look good doing it!
