STYLE GURU STYLE: Print Issues

Ladies and gentlemen, Fashionistas/os, spring is officially here. Or, so they say. In addition to the insane wind that comes here with spring in New Mexico—it’s tough to stay sartorially inspired as a last semester senior. I know those of you on the same boat as I am are definitely feeling the same struggle or suffering the same senioritis. So lacking my own inspiration, I turned to Comme des Garçons fall 2015 menswear line. Though designed with fall in mind, this collection has everything I crave for spring. The bold colorful prints and the structured silhouettes were made all the more daring in their unique shape and added playfulness to a typical suit. I knew I had to scour my closet to get that Comme des Garçons vibe in my life, which is, by the way, really fun to say out loud.

To channel the look of the line, I started off simple with a few basics. A heather gray pencil skirt and some sweater knit tights referenced (while not looking too baggy) the fantastic shape the gaucho suit pants and the second skin created for the show. Unfortunately, I find myself without printed tights, so to bring the prints back into the look, I opted for a playful printed shirt to give the outfit the kick it needs.

Instead of a blazer to channel the suit vibe, I decided to opt for a structured black coat since it’s still pretty windy here. To tie the whole look together and bring back more of the playfulness that’s in the show, I decided to top it off with a bright yellow beanie and some super fun high-tops. After all, the Commes des Garçons vibe is all about adding an unexpected element to the mix.

Get My Look: 1. A printed shirt. 2. A structured black coat. 3. Fun high-tops.
