STYLE GURU STYLE: Preps For Spring

To say that the pre-fall 2015 Oscar de la Renta collection was utter perfection would be an understatement.  Hot pinks, reds and teals illuminated the runway while navy and camel created more refined, tailored looks.  Hardly any loud patterns were employed in the collection, which created looks that were timeless and reminiscent of J.Crew fashions.

I decided to create my own spin on the de la Renta’s collection by going for a preppy ensemble, complete with Frye riding boots and a pinstripe button-down.  I wanted to recreate Look four in the collection by pairing a camel color with blue, but decided to ditch the dark navy of fall for a more spring-friendly sky blue. Statement necklaces and earrings were significant pieces of each look in the de la Renta collection. However, since it’s getting to be too warm for flashy jewels, I decided to keep my accessories simple with a classic Daniel Wellington watch. A watch is a must for any wardrobe and making the splurge on a good watch that is versatile enough to last a life time is a definite must.

This pre-fall 2015 collection inspired me to focus on classic pieces that will be staples to my closet even when I’m 25. While my comfort zone was tested by a preppy look (not the style I usually go for), the look made me realize just how many key pieces I own. Instead of siding for the usual black-on-black look I usually sport, maybe it’s time to start putting more thought into my everyday look. Spring is the time for change, after all.

Get My Look: 1. The tailored coat. 2. White jeans that are perfect for spring. 3. A classic watch.
