STYLE GURU STYLE: “Prepping” for Spring

Recently, the Tory Burch pre-fall 2015 fashion show demanded my attention. I was immediately mesmerized by the rich hues of red and blue. The styles all had a classic American feel with a preppy emphasis. I was blown away by look 10 in particular. I loved how Burch used the cognac boots and crossbody to cohere with the autumn tones in the double-breasted coat. It made me want to channel my Blair Waldorf side and take advantage of the preppier items in my closet while incorporating the palette that Burch used in her debut collection.

I adopted this trend for the rarely cold Florida weather by picking out some of my favorite outerwear, a navy blue Ralph Lauren coat. Then, I added a pair of maroon pants that I could wear easily with my favorite pair of leather riding boots. I adore the potent, yet subtle feel of the maroon color and loved seeing it reappear throughout Burch’s collection. While choosing my ensemble, I remembered the preppy vibe that I wanted to achieve, while also making it practical for a day of venturing through campus. I topped off the look by adding a simple white blouse and a few accessories.

I really enjoyed this look because it reminded me that an ensemble does not always have to be edgy to be considered fashionable. While it can be fun to try a leather crop top now and then, classic pieces never go out of style. Tory Burch reminded me of this in her latest collection and I encourage all of you other Fashionistas to try it as well!
