STYLE GURU STYLE: Plaid is Back, And Better Than Ever

A recent Marc by Marc Jacobs collection has hit the fall 2015 runway in a powerful way. One thing I loved about it? Plaid. Plaid is back and better than it ever has been. In one look, the model wore a plaid dress underneath a structured sweater and collar. Plaid is no longer that ugly print on school girl uniforms; it’s here to stay! Marc Jacobs paired his plaids with a bunch of other patterns and layers, bringing new perspectives to the classic button-down or mini skirt. I’ve taken inspiration from that to create my own fall look that declares plaid the new black of the season.

This plaid mini skirt is actually a major throwback from my mom’s closet. The wool fabric is perfect for those chilly fall days, and the warm tones of the skirt are the ideal base for layering. The darker olive green sections add a twist to the normal color palette, and boy do I love it. I’ve paired the skirt with some brown tights and little brown booties that elongate the leg and add height. These rustic heels are the perfect size for strutting around campus without getting sore feet. Plus, they also add to the vintage quality of the look. My cable knit sweater is the most luscious shade of cream that softens the outfit. The best part? The open back! This cute bow detailing on the back of the sweater is a trendy surprise to the normal pullover. The open back is sexy, but in a flattering way that still keeps the outfit professional. My necklace is one of my statement, go-to pieces that always brings a little shine to any outfit. I’ve kept the jewelry gold to match the warm feel of the look. Altogether, this outfit pulls from those flashy runway looks and makes it wearable for the everyday busy body. To top the look off? Add a dark lip. This wine colored lipstick is my favorite fall accessory.
