STYLE GURU STYLE: Orange You Glad It’s Fall?

To answer this question in three words, I would say: meh, not really. I am cold, people! It’s too soon for tights, too late for bare legs and I have so many dresses and skirts I’d like to get some more wear out of without the looming threat of hypothermia.

I am being a bit dramatic? Definitely. Fall fashion has a lot to offer, and there are many solutions for sneaking an untapped summer wardrobe into that of the fall and adapting it to colder weather.  Aside from my favorite way to address this problem—complaining about it—I like to utilize the method of denial. In fact, I am demonstrating this practice here! Observe me pretending it’s not that cold out by bearing my legs in a pleated mini skirt paired with a thin blouse, when in reality, temperatures are falling below 60. I do a pretty convincing job too, might I add.  I congratulate myself and encourage you to fake it until you make it (or maybe until you get frost bite).

Pairing summer pieces that incorporate fall trends into your outfit is another great solution, and it’s actually a constructive one. According to Pantone’s fashion color report, a big color for this fall is Potter’s Clay which is fancy for burnt orange. Even though I’m wearing a summery blouse, the burnt orange hue of the skirt helps bring the look into the new season. I threw on a leather jacket to for seasonal appropriateness, and also for good measure because I was freezing cold. A leather jacket is such a classic staple, appropriate for virtually any season (because in the summer, I pretend I don’t sweat in leather), with the ability to make any outfit look chic. I finished off the look with a pair of patchwork booties that stayed within the color scheme and gave me some much appreciated extra height.

I wish all you Fashionistas and Fashionistos luck this fall and encourage you to push the boundaries of seasonal style in your own unique way.
