It’s that time of year when rain slowly starts to turn into snow. We are left needing to add a few more sweaters and warmer coats into our wardrobe. Statement coats are a great item to add! They have been a growing trend this fall, and they’re an easy way to add a pop of color to a simple outfit!
I was inspired by the kate spade new york fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection. Colorful, bold and lady-like are just s few of the words I would use to describe this line. One of the biggest trends I noticed throughout the collection was the statement coat. kate spade incorporated an array of them; from leather, plaid and fur lined, to bold vivid colors. There was a lot of plaid in bags, skirts and coats. One of my favorite things about this collection is the use of color. Even though it is fall, the designer didn’t shy away from eye-catching colors. I love that she used a bubblegum shade of pink, and offset it with a dusty blush shade.
Drawing inspiration from the light fabrics used in the collection, I chose to wear a white chiffon button-up shirt. I paired this with black tights and a black, flowy chiffon skirt. My goal for this outfit was to keep it simple. I wanted to make sure my coat was the first thing that stood out. To accessorize, I added a long necklace and a cross-body bag. For my shoes, I chose to wear oxfords. I noticed a lot of pieces from the collection were menswear-inspired. Some of the silhouettes were boxy, and the oxford shoes and tapered trousers are both seen in menswear today.
