STYLE GURU STYLE: Mad For Plaid

Plaid is a print that will most likely never go out of style. It can be worn year round, although it takes on different forms depending on the season. Plaid coats and flannels are cozy for the winter, while lightweight tartan dresses and tops are perfect for spring. Plaids in neutral colors are more grown-up and versatile. If you’re over florals, give this preppy print a try instead.

The Calvin Klein fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection featured easy plaid dresses and tunics in neutral colors. The looks were classic, but fresh. Calvin Klein is one of my favorite high-end designers because they’re always coming up with new takes on classic, feminine silhouettes. Taking inspiration from this show, I paired a black and white plaid blouse with a more feminine skirt with a lace hem. I love this top because it can be worn with jeans for a more casual look or can be contrasted with a dressier piece like my skirt. This dressed up/dressed down look feels effortless and flirty for date night.

A classic tan trench coat goes with anything. I especially like to use it as a transition piece from winter to spring, when it’s not quite warm enough to just wear a skirt. Tan and black is always a great color combo too. I paired suede riding boots in a slightly darker tan to keep the look from being too matchy-matchy. I accessorized with a bucket bag and royal blue earrings for a subtle pop of color.

Get My Look: 1. This plaid top. 2. A classic trench coat. 3. Any suede boots.
