STYLE GURU STYLE: Let It Faux

There’s no doubt about it, the fur fall trend is here to stay. And hooray for that! Fur details can be the perfect addition for a glamorous touch in an outfit. Fur was scattered all over the runways during the spring and when I first caught a glimpse of Bouchra Jarrar’s Spring 2014 Couture Collection, I felt inspired to get creative with this trend. Jarrar’s collection was just plain cool, there’s no better word for it. With ensembles giving off an almost “rockstar princess” vibe, it’s impossible to not fall in love with these pieces. With leather, silk, feathers and fur, this collection portrayed a darker and more structured side of femininity while still managing to remain graceful.

I took inspiration from this collection and created a look which mimics the edgy yet elegant aspects of Jarrar’s designs, but more suited to my day to day style. The main hue featured in this show was black, therefore, I kept my look on the darker side. Wearing a casual gray and black striped dress, black buckled booties, a black wide brimmed hat and a gray faux fur vest, I made sure this outfit was very monochromatic.

Jarrar’s collection featured mainly high necklines, so I found this dress was the perfect cut as it has a slight turtleneck. My dress also helps in keeping the outfit more laid back as it is made out of a jersey material. This show also included multiple vests and fur accents, making my faux fur vest the obvious choice for a Jarrar inspired look. Fur vests can really glam up a look, however, the lack of sleeves helps them from being too over the top which is great for day to day style.

The models in this show were styled with their hair slicked into a glamorous poofs, as this is definitely a hairstyle I could never master, I felt like a glamorous hat would have to take the place of the poof. I also added simple jewelry to mimic the bits of sparkle in this collection in a more understated way, and carried my black kate spade to add a touch more leather. I felt like the buckles on the booties and the leather and fur elements really helped in capturing the essence of Jarrar’s show and were the perfect way to finish this look off.

Get My Look: 1. Neutral turtleneck dress. 2. Fur vest. 3. Wide brimmed hat. 4. Buckled booties.
