STYLE GURU STYLE: Layers Are Your Best Friend

Hello again, Fashionistas/os! Fall is finally here, and I for one, could not be happier! Don’t get me wrong, I love summertime and warm weather, but sweater and boot season is easily my favorite time of the year! Unfortunately, fall in Lynchburg only seems to last for about two weeks before all the leaves have fallen and the weather turns really cold. We’ve been lucky the past few weeks by having almost 80 degree weather, but at the same time it’s hard to enjoy the fall season when it’s nice enough to wear shorts! But lately, I’ve been able to break out my favorite pieces for fall!

For this look, I took inspiration from the Tory Burch spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection. It features a lot of embroidered and patterned tops, and to bring the trend into fall, I added my go-to army green jacket to a black and white embroidered top. I chose to stick with black jeans and black booties to complete the rest of the outfit to keep it simple and let the top be the star of the outfit. Booties have been such a huge trend this season, and I am loving every moment of it. Being short (only 5’2!) I tend to gravitate towards booties with a little bit of a heel. If you don’t own a pair of black booties, I highly recommend you buy them because these are my go-to shoes! I added my white Lokai bracelet, Alex and Ani bracelets and my Delaware necklace, as well as a simple ring to complete the look.

With my everyday style, I tend to wear things that I can mix and match, as well as layers that I can take off later in the day in case the weather changes quickly! My advice for you would be to try layering some pieces that you may not originally think go together! For example, this summer top isn’t something I normally would wear in the fall, but adding a utility jacket takes the outfit into the next season. Cold weather does not mean the end of cute outfits; it’s simply the beginning of a whole new type of style!
